Jack Shore is a Welsh mixed martial artist who retired from professional competition in December 2024 at age 29. Born in Abertillery, Wales, Shore began kickboxing at six years old under his father's guidance and transitioned to MMA as a teenager. He compiled an impressive 12-0 amateur record, highlighted by winning the inaugural 2015 IMMAF European lightweight championship, before turning professional in 2016. From 2016 to 2019, Shore dominated Cage Warriors, the UK's premier MMA promotion, going 9-0 and capturing the bantamweight title in December 2018 with a dynamic third-round technical knockout of Mike Ekundayo. He successfully defended the title once before signing with the UFC in May 2019.
Shore made his UFC debut at featherweight in September 2019 against Nohelin Hernandez, submitting him via rear-naked choke in the third round and earning a Performance of the Night bonus. He followed with two more submission victories, establishing himself as a rising featherweight contender through grappling prowess. However, his momentum stalled in 2022 when he lost to Ricky Simon via arm-triangle choke, a setback from which he struggled to recover. After moving back to bantamweight briefly and returning to featherweight, Shore faced Joanderson Brito at UFC 301 in May 2024 and was stopped by a doctor's stoppage due to a leg kick injury in the second round. His final UFC fight came in November 2024 against Youssef Zalal, another submission loss.
Shore's fighting style centered on submission grappling, particularly the rear-naked choke, which accounted for eight of his nine submission victories. His takedown success rate was modest, suggesting his wrestling was more about positional control and clinch work than explosive entries. With a 56% striking defense and striking output well below promotion average, he remained primarily a grappler who excelled when fights reached the ground. In his retirement announcement, Shore cited accumulated injuries from a lifetime of training and competition, noting that while his mental health remained sound and his finances stable, he preferred to exit the sport on his own terms rather than have injury force the decision.
