Bethe Correia climbed the UFC women's bantamweight ladder in the mid-2010s with a mix of pressure boxing and sharp trash talk, picking off members of Ronda Rousey's training circle to manufacture a grudge. It worked: she talked her way into a 2015 title shot in Brazil.
That night became one of the era's signature moments, just for the wrong reasons - Rousey starched her in 34 seconds in front of a home crowd. Correia didn't fade away, though. She stayed relevant with a win over Jessica Eye and shared the cage with former champion Holly Holm before eventually retiring.
A natural heel who understood how to sell a fight, Correia is remembered as much for her willingness to play villain as for her results, a fighter who made the women's division more compelling by daring to poke the biggest star in it.
Why fans love Correia
She was fearless on the mic and in the cage, willing to call out the biggest star in the sport and back it up by climbing the rankings.
Why some fans hate Correia
Built her run on pointed trash talk and getting under rivals' skin, which made plenty of fans want to see her lose.
