Raulian Paiva

Raulian Paiva is a Brazilian bantamweight striker who came to the UFC via Dana White's Contender Series Brazil in 2018, fresh off dropping out of college to pursue fighting full-time. Born and raised in the remote state of Amapá, Paiva carries the aggressive, high-output style of a fighter who had to scrape for every opportunity. He made his UFC debut in early 2019 and spent his next two years building a modest record punctuated by moments of genuine flash, most notably a knockout of Mark De La Rosa in 2020 and a surprisingly entertaining majority-decision win over Kyler Phillips that earned him Fight of the Night honors despite two of three judges scoring it a draw. That Phillips fight in July 2021 represented the high-water mark of his career, showcasing his willingness to engage and throw volume without regard for personal risk. His style works best when both fighters are throwing hard; he generates power and excitement through constant pressure and high pace. However, those same assets mask defensive gaps that more technically polished opponents can exploit. Sean O'Malley, then a rising prospect himself, exposed those weaknesses decisively in December 2021 at UFC 269, stopping Paiva in the opening round with sheer precision and timing. A subsequent unanimous-decision loss to Sergey Morozov in June 2022 sealed his fate in the promotion. The UFC released Paiva in January 2023, citing the competitive logjam at bantamweight. His tenure was marked not only by inconsistent results but also by weight-management struggles, including a three-pound miss against Zhumagulov and at least two fight cancellations due to weight-cut complications, suggesting personal discipline issues that may have held him back as much as the fight game itself.
