Mike Jackson is a Houston-based welterweight with a documented professional record of 1-2 in the UFC, though his career narrative is colored by controversy and narrow margins. He began training in 2008 and built an impressive background outside MMA - a 2011 Golden Gloves boxing champion with a 4-0 professional boxing record - before making his UFC debut in February 2016. That debut ended badly, a submission loss to Mickey Gall in just 45 seconds. Jackson rebounded to face CM Punk, the WWE star attempting his own UFC dream, at UFC 225 in June 2018. Jackson controlled the fight over three rounds and was awarded a unanimous decision, an upset that seemed to validate his striking credentials and technical approach. That win, however, was later overturned to a no-contest after Jackson tested positive for marijuana in post-fight screening, a failed test that UFC president Dana White cited as effectively ending Jackson's tenure with the promotion.

Jackson's fighting style centers on ranged striking and clinch work with solid defensive instincts; he lands significant strikes consistently but lacks knockout power, reflected in his decision-based record. After a long layoff, he returned to face Dean Barry in April 2022 and won via disqualification when Barry was ruled unable to continue after an intentional eye poke - a technical victory that did little to restore momentum. His UFC run ended in October 2022 with a first-round knockout loss to Pete Rodriguez, and he was released by the promotion in January 2023 despite having fights remaining on his contract.

Post-UFC, Jackson has remained active in combat sports. In October 2023, he faced Hall of Famer and inaugural UFC Welterweight Champion Pat Miletich, recovering from an early knockdown to earn a corner stoppage win in the second round - a notable scalp outside the UFC. Jackson is also a working photographer and videographer for Legacy Fighting Alliance, maintaining ties to the sport beyond competition. His documented career is one of a technical striker with legitimate boxing credentials who never quite found traction in the UFC, overshadowed by the marijuana test that voided his most significant promotional win.

Why some fans hate Jackson

Jackson's win over CM Punk was overturned due to a positive post-fight drug test for marijuana, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the victory. His bout with CM Punk also drew criticism from UFC president Dana White, who was reportedly unhappy with Jackson's performance.
