Julia Polastri is a 28-year-old Brazilian strawweight competing in the UFC who came into the promotion with a reputation as an aggressive striker but stumbled out of the gate, going 1-2 in her first three fights against solid but not elite opposition. She found herself in a tough position in the division: young, powerful, and willing to engage, but struggling to really seize control of fights or impose her will consistently.
That narrative changed dramatically in October 2025 at UFC Rio, when she faced veteran Karolina Kowalkiewicz, a former title challenger almost 12 years her senior. Polastri came out with purpose, using vicious body kicks and clinch knees to wear down the Polish striker across the first two rounds. In the third, she caught Kowalkiewicz with a flush headkick and followed up with a brutal combination against the cage, forcing referee Marc Goddard to step in at 2:56. The performance was a statement: Polastri had the power, the timing, and the aggression to beat top names in the strawweight division.
Her style centers on high-volume striking with real bite. She throws calf kicks and front kicks up the middle to sap opponents' energy and rhythm, mixes in hard hands, and uses clinch work with knees to wear people down. She's not a jiu-jitsu threat, and her wrestling is a known weakness against stronger opponents who can corral her against the cage. That weakness came to the fore shortly after the Kowalkiewicz win, when she faced undefeated prospect Talita Alencar in April 2026 and lost a unanimous decision, suggesting that while she can beat aging veterans, the upper tier of the division remains a step beyond her current level.
Polastri remains a young, exciting prospect with upside if she can tighten her striking defense and game-plan against stronger opponents. The Kowalkiewicz finish proved she belongs in the UFC; what remains to be seen is whether she can string together wins over the division's true contenders.
Why fans love Polastri
She brings exciting striking and is willing to trade, with nasty body kicks and surprising power for a 115-pounder. Her dominant third-round finish of Kowalkiewicz was a showcase of her best self.
