Sharabutdin 'Bullet' Magomedov is a 32-year-old Russian middleweight with one of MMA's most compelling personal stories. Born in Dagestan in 1994, he began boxing as a child out of necessity, fighting local rivals on the streets before formalizing his training at age 12. He went on to win regional and national titles in Muay Thai and Lethwei, a brutal form of kickboxing fought under traditional rules, but a severe eye injury suffered during training in Thailand eventually left him blind in one eye. Despite this setback and financial hardship, Magomedov refused to quit. Michael Bisping's example of winning a UFC title with a similar injury became his north star. He pivoted to MMA, compiling an 11-0 record in Asian regional promotions before his viral eight-second knockout over Kushal Vyas in December 2022, which earned him a UFC contract.
Since his October 2023 UFC debut, Magomedov has established himself as one of the promotion's most electrifying strikers. He is a heavy-handed pressure fighter who controls the pace from distance and in the clinch, landing more significant strikes per minute than he absorbs. His signature backfist technique produced a stunning double-spinning knockout of Armen Petrosyan at UFC 308 in October 2024, earning Performance of the Night honors. His technical striking and first-round finishing ability generated Performance and Fight of the Night bonuses across multiple bouts, making him a fan favorite.
However, Magomedov's undefeated streak ended in February 2025 when Michael 'Venom' Page outpointed him over three rounds at UFC Fight Night 250, exposing gaps in his footwork and range management. The loss marked a turning point, but he has shown resilience, rebounding with a unanimous decision over Marc-André Barriault in July 2025 and most recently defeating Michel Pereira by decision in June 2026. At 16-1, Magomedov remains a mid-tier contender in a stacked middleweight division, with his elite striking and comeback narrative drawing a loyal following. Fans are drawn to both his brutal effectiveness in the cage and his remarkable personal journey from a one-eyed underdog to a serious UFC player.
Why fans love Magomedov
Magomedov's documented comeback from a career-threatening eye injury, his work ethic rooted in harsh childhood circumstances in Dagestan, and his exciting striking style with a high knockout rate. Fans also respect his humility and his open acknowledgment of Michael Bisping as a source of inspiration for overcoming his disability.
