Kauê Fernandes is a 30-year-old Brazilian lightweight whose rapid rise in the UFC has been defined by his exceptional finishing ability. Starting martial arts at just five years old under his father's guidance, Fernandes built a complete combat base that includes a black belt in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, along with multiple BJJ championship titles across Rio de Janeiro and South American competition. He turned professional in 2014 and held the Shooto Brasil title before joining the UFC in November 2023, since which time he has posted a 3-1 record marked by increasingly dominant performances.
What sets Fernandes apart is the sheer speed and variety of his finishes. Nine of his 11 career wins have come in the first round, with five of those finishes landing in 90 seconds or less. He wins by knockout, submission, and even leg kicks, demonstrating a well-rounded arsenal that leaves opponents with nowhere to hide. His victory over Mohammad Yahya in August 2024 was a showcase of his striking power, while his September 2025 performance against Harry Hardwick was a technical masterpiece: Fernandes dismantled the former Cage Warriors champion with brutal leg kicks in just 3:21, earning a Performance of the Night bonus and making UFC history as only the 19th fighter to ever finish an opponent via leg kicks alone.
Fernandes fights with the urgency and intensity of someone still hungry to prove himself, despite his credentials. His single UFC loss to Marc Diakiese came via controversial split decision in a grinding three-round affair, a rare stumble that tested his resolve but also demonstrated his ability to compete in deep water. With seven knockout wins and six submission victories in his record, Fernandes represents the kind of finisher who can end a fight at any moment, making him must-watch television in the lightweight division.
Why fans love Fernandes
Exciting finishing machine with legitimate martial-arts pedigree (black belts in two disciplines, multiple championship wins in BJJ). Always hungry for the KO/submission and delivers highlight-reel finishes. Also has the rare skill and tactical awareness to finish fights with leg kicks. Appears humble and grounded in interviews, crediting his father's early guidance.
