William 'Jaguar' Gomis is a 28-year-old French featherweight out of Paris and the Venum Training Camp, riding a strong win-loss record (13 of his last 15) in the UFC with a knack for finishing fights. Born in Montivilliers in 1997, Gomis came to MMA as a way to channel himself starting at age 16, going on to become a four-time Sanda French champion and Sanda European champion before transitioning to MMA full-time. He turned professional in 2016 and spent his early career in French regional promotions before earning his UFC contract in 2022.

Gomis fights as an aggressive, heavy-handed striker who does the bulk of his damage at distance and in the clinch, landing significant strikes at a high rate (327 landed across 673 attempts at last count). He boasts seven knockout wins and one submission victory (a trademark guillotine choke), meaning he finishes nearly half his fights before judges get a say. His third-round body-kick TKO of Yanis Ghemmouri in September 2023 exemplifies his striking range and finishing instinct. In close fights, he shows the grit to grind out split-decision wins, a quality proven in his victories over Joanderson Brito and Francis Marshall. A 62% striking defense and 78% takedown defense suggest he moves well and keeps threats at range.

Recently, Gomis has hit a speed bump. A split-decision loss to Hyder Amil in March 2025 and a unanimous-decision setback to Pat Sabatini at UFC 328 in May 2026 have stalled his momentum and left him outside the top rankings. However, he remains an active, unranked but dangerous featherweight fixture on UFC Fight Night cards. His greatest advantage is his ability to fight in front of French crowds; victories at home in Paris have fueled his rise and built a passionate following. For casual fans, Gomis offers what combat sports fans crave: heavy hands, finishing instinct, and the hunger of a prospect still chasing his title dream in the featherweight division.

Why fans love Gomis

Finishes fights with brutal strikes and submissions, brings genuine aggression to the octagon, fights frequently on home soil in Paris where fans rally behind him, speaks openly about his journey from needing to 'channel himself' through combat sports.
