Zarrukh Adashev is an Uzbek mixed martial artist and former professional kickboxer who represents a classic striking-to-MMA crossover story. Born in Samarkand in 1992, Adashev amassed a 16-3 professional kickboxing record as a two-time WKU world champion and multiple international title holder before pivoting to MMA in 2015. He initially found success in Bellator, compiling a 3-0 record with knockout finishes, which earned him a call to the UFC in June 2020. However, his UFC tenure has been inconsistent: while he secured a unanimous decision victory over Ryan Benoit in 2021 and registered two knockout wins, he has also suffered two devastating first-round knockout losses to Tyson Nam (June 2020, UFC debut) and Ode Osbourne (June 2022), the latter of which led to his removal from the UFC roster. At 30 years old, Adashev fights as a flyweight and draws heavily on his striking foundations, maintaining perfect takedown defense in the UFC but proving vulnerable to explosive hand combinations from opponents with equally strong fundamentals. His 4-4 professional MMA record and stated ambition to become a UFC champion reflect a fighter still searching for the consistency needed to compete at the sport's highest level, though his technical skill set and infectious passion for fighting remain clear.
Why fans love Adashev
Adashev's passion for fighting and desire to become a legend is documented; he explicitly stated his lifelong dream of competing in the UFC and his motivation to inspire younger students and fighters. His kickboxing credentials and technical striking appeal to purists.
