David Dvorak is a Czech flyweight who built his reputation as one of the most exciting finishers in the lower weight classes, amassing 16 stoppages over a long career that began in 2009 across Czech regional promotions. While balancing MMA training with work as a gravedigger and construction engineer, Dvorak compiled a strong regional resume before signing with the UFC in March 2020 on just five weeks' notice as a replacement fighter. He immediately impressed, winning his first three UFC bouts including a notable unanimous decision over ranked opponent Jordan Espinosa, which extended his personal winning streak to 15 fights.

Dvorak's striking is efficient and landing-heavy at distance, but his true signature lies in his submission game, particularly the rear-naked choke executed with lethal precision. Ten of his wins came by finish in the first round, showcasing an ability to impose pressure and capitalize quickly. His octagon IQ, honed through years of competitive chess before his fighting career, gives him a tactical edge that sometimes translates to decision-based victories as well.

However, losses to Matheus Nicolau, Manel Kape, and Steve Erceg between 2022 and 2023 exposed gaps against elite flyweight competition and cost him momentum in the UFC. He was released from the promotion in 2024 but has returned to action through Oktagon MMA in Europe with renewed purpose: securing a title and using a championship platform to amplify his work mentoring children through sportsmanship camps. His stated motivation to become something bigger than the belt, combined with his blue-collar origin story and elite finishing ability, has positioned him as a compelling underdog entering the back nine of his career.

Why fans love Dvorak

Dvorak carries a genuine underdog charm rooted in his working-class background (gravedigger, construction engineer) and humble entry into the UFC. His finishing rate and early-round submission wins provide excitement. Post-UFC, his stated focus on opening a gym and visiting children's camps to teach sportsmanship presents him as a fighter with substance and purpose beyond personal glory.
