Iwo "Rudy" Baraniewski is a 27-year-old Polish mixed martial artist riding one of the most efficient run starts in recent UFC history. After a decorated career in judo that included a junior world bronze medal and multiple European championships, Baraniewski transitioned to MMA in September 2023 and has compiled an undefeated 8-0 professional record without a single decision: six of his eight wins came by knockout or TKO, two by submission (both armbars), and all eight in the opening round. His path to the UFC showcased relentless finishing power at the regional level before a 20-second knockout of Mahamed Aly on Dana White's Contender Series in September 2025 earned him a UFC contract.

Since his December 2025 UFC debut against İbo Aslan, Baraniewski has announced himself as a legitimate light heavyweight threat with two devastating first-round finishes. His knockout of Aslan at UFC 323 lasted just 1:29 and earned immediate Performance of the Night recognition. His follow-up fight against Austen Lane in March 2026, a towering 6'6" opponent, lasted even shorter: 28 seconds, capped by another Performance of the Night bonus. These rapid victories have made Baraniewski one of the most exciting prospects in the division.

Baraniewski's fighting style is a hybrid of his judo mastery and devastating ground-and-pound. He uses his wrestling base to close distance and secure top position, then overwhelms opponents with punches and elbows from above, landing 58% of his significant strikes on the ground. His striking defense is exceptional relative to the volume he absorbs, and his fights rarely extend beyond a few seconds of sustained pressure. At 6'0" with a 73.5" reach, he competes at light heavyweight despite a background as a heavyweight in amateur MMA, giving him an edge in explosiveness and hand speed within the division.

With an 18-fight winning streak that spans his amateur career, an undefeated UFC ledger, and a clear disdain for decisions, Baraniewski represents the kind of elite finisher and technical grappler the light heavyweight division has lacked in recent years. His ascent is likely to accelerate.

Why fans love Baraniewski

Baraniewski is a breath of fresh air in a division often slowed by grappling stalls: every single fight ends in a finish, usually within the first minute. His judo background provides technical novelty and he does not waste audience time. His modest demeanor in interviews (naming Jon Jones as his favorite fighter, discussing his love of hiking and travel) makes him endearing despite the violence.
