Zak Ottow is a Milwaukee-born welterweight journeyman who carved out a career as a submission specialist in regional MMA before joining the UFC in 2016. Trained in wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and kickboxing, Ottow built a 13-3 record across Upper Midwest promotions before earning a short-notice debut against Josh Burkman at UFC Fight Night in October 2016, winning via split decision to announce himself on the biggest stage. Over nearly three years in the octagon, he demonstrated the technical grappling prowess that defined his game: 9 of his 17 career wins came by submission, and he showed explosive early finishing power with strikes as well. His most impressive performance came in March 2018 when he stopped veteran Mike Pyle via first-round TKO on short notice at UFC 222.
