Joanne 'JoJo' Calderwood came up through Scotland's muay thai scene and turned that pedigree into a long run as one of women's MMA's better strikers, first in Invicta FC and then in the UFC. Pressure, kicks, knees and clinch elbows defined her - she preferred to walk opponents down and beat them on volume rather than out-point them from range.
Her career peaked in 2020 when she landed a flyweight title eliminator against Jennifer Maia, the closest she came to a UFC belt. A submission loss there cost her the shot, and she spent the rest of her run as a tough out and gatekeeper before stepping away from the sport. For fans, she's remembered as an action-first fighter who helped legitimize a young women's flyweight division.
Why fans love Calderwood
Aggressive, fan-friendly striking and a willingness to fight anyone in a thin early flyweight division.
