Guido Cannetti is an Argentine mixed martial artist who built his career on submission prowess and knockout power, turning professional in 2007 after years of kickboxing and Muay Thai training alongside his brother Bruno. The 43-year-old bantamweight earned his UFC opportunity through the promotion's Latin America development program and The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America in 2014, competing for Team Werdum before making his official debut at UFC 180. Over nearly a decade in the UFC, Cannetti compiled a 10-8 record marked by explosive early finishes: he owns four wins by knockout and four by submission, nearly all of them in round one, and earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his rear-naked choke submission of Randy Costa in October 2022. His signature move is the rear-naked choke, which he has landed four times in the UFC, though he has also been caught in that same position five times, revealing a vulnerability to elite-level grappling.
Cannetti's career was interrupted in 2016 when he was suspended for ten months by USADA after testing positive for multiple prohibited substances from a contaminated supplement. Despite this setback, he returned to competition and had modest success in the following years, including a unanimous decision over Diego Rivas and a striking-based TKO of Kris Moutinho. His fighting style reflects his kickboxing roots: he generates significant power with his hands and lands most of his strikes at distance, though his takedown defense remains a weakness against wrestling-heavy opponents. A physical education professor by training, Cannetti relocated to Albuquerque to train at Jackson's MMA academy while developing as a UFC prospect, balancing his fighting career with co-ownership of Our Town MMA gym in Argentina alongside his brother. He was removed from the UFC roster in March 2023 following a first-round submission loss to Mario Bautista, concluding his run as a reliable journeyman in one of the sport's most competitive weight classes.
