Austin Lingo is a featherweight striker from Dallas with a background as diverse as they come. After his father discovered him street fighting at 13, Lingo committed to martial arts with unusual dedication, earning a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, competing on the US Muay Thai team at the IFMA World Championships, and collecting Golden Gloves accolades. He spent five years on the regional circuit (primarily LFA), where he made a name for himself with five first-round finishes and four wins that lasted 35 seconds or less, combining boxing with devastating submission entries.
Lingo brought that explosiveness to the UFC in February 2020, but his promotional debut against Youssef Zalal ended in a unanimous decision loss. Undeterred, he rebounded with three straight wins via unanimous decision over Jacob Kilburn, Luis Saldana, and others, establishing himself as a featherweight prospect with clean striking and grappling instincts. His wins came across three rounds, suggesting he could pace himself beyond his signature first-round blitzes.
The momentum stalled in early 2023. A March showdown with Nate Landwehr ended via rear-naked choke in the second round, and four months later Melquizael Costa outpointed him over three rounds. In December 2023, Lingo was released from the UFC roster. The setbacks were a sharp reversal for a fighter whose regional resume spoke to elite finishing ability, but the featherweight division is unforgiving, and Lingo must now rebuild on the regional scene and prove he can regain his footing at the highest level.
Why fans love Lingo
Fans appreciate Lingo's finishing instinct and the efficiency of his early-round knockouts and submissions. His diverse martial arts background (Muay Thai training in Thailand, Golden Gloves, Tae Kwon Do black belt) and willingness to face ranked opponents in the UFC show a fighter hungry to prove himself.
