Tonya Evinger is a Missouri-born mixed martial artist and pioneering women's featherweight who turned professional in 2006 and built a 19-8 record across regional circuits, Invicta, and the UFC. Born in Moses Lake, Washington, and trained as a wrestler at Missouri Valley College, Evinger spent the first decade of her career developing her craft in smaller promotions before rising to prominence in Invicta Fighting Championships. She captured the Invicta FC bantamweight title in July 2015 with a dominant fourth-round TKO of Irene Aldana, then successfully defended it twice against Colleen Schneider and Yana Kunitskaya, establishing herself as one of the organization's most reliable champions. Her title belt and pedigree earned her a call to the UFC in 2017, where she faced Cris Cyborg for the vacant Women's Featherweight Championship at UFC 214. Though she fell short in that bid, losing by third-round TKO, Evinger remained active in the octagon until 2019, competing against top-ranked contenders despite suffering losses to Aspen Ladd and Lina Lansberg.
Evinger fights as an aggressive pressure striker with heavy clinch work and standing exchanges, complemented by a versatile submission game. Her record reflects that balance: 8 knockout or TKO wins, 7 submission victories, and 4 decision wins. She lands significant strikes at close range and defends takedowns competently, making her a well-rounded threat who can finish opponents in multiple ways. At 42 years old and marked as active, she represents the durable veteran archetype in women's MMA, a fighter who pushed herself to the highest level and earned respect for her technical approach and championship pedigree.
