Marco Tulio is a 31-year-old Brazilian middleweight striker from the legendary Chute Boxe gym who arrived in the UFC in January 2025 with a fully formed fighting identity: high-volume pressure striking, black belt credentials in Muay Thai, and devastating knockout power. His first four UFC fights were a showcase of what that identity could do. He racked up three first-round finishes, maintaining striking efficiency rates that exceeded most of his peers, and looked like a prospect ready to climb the middleweight rankings at a late stage of his career.

Then Christian Leroy Duncan, an underdog, caught him in the second round of November 2025 with a knockout that was serious enough to require two reconstructive surgeries on Tulio's forehead. It was a stunning reversal for a fighter who had won 10 straight. Rather than back away, Tulio spent five months in recovery and returned at UFC 328 in May 2026 to face Roman Kopylov, a live middleweight with knockout wins in his own record. The fight went the distance, a three-round decision loss, and while Tulio showed he could weather the storm after major injury, it marked his second consecutive defeat and a recalibration of his trajectory.

What makes Tulio compelling now is not just his striking arsenal but his willingness to evolve. Even after the Duncan loss, he trained alongside Demian Maia, the jiu-jitsu legend and former UFC title challenger, to shore up the wrestling and grappling gaps that could expose him against takedown-heavy opponents like Kopylov. He speaks thoughtfully about adversity and adaptation, calling his return "smoother" than his pre-Duncan camp despite the medical procedures. At 14-2, he remains a heavy-handed finisher with every reason to climb back into contention if he can string wins together. He is a striker in the truest sense, but one humble enough to learn.

Why fans love Tulio

Explosive knockout power and efficiency; comes forward with aggression and volume; trained at the legendary Chute Boxe gym; works with world-class coaches like Demian Maia and shows a willingness to improve his grappling despite being a pure striker; mature, thoughtful demeanor in interviews; overcame major career adversity (reconstructive surgeries) with no fear.
