Johny Hendricks was a wrestling champion turned welterweight wrecking ball, the rare fighter who could put anyone away with a single left hand while controlling them on the mat. His five-round battle with Georges St-Pierre at UFC 167 was so close that many believed he'd already become champion before the judges said otherwise.
He got the gold the next year, surviving a savage war with Robbie Lawler to claim the vacant title. But the reign was short. Lawler edged him in the rematch, and a combination of weight-cutting issues and injuries sent his career into decline. A move to middleweight didn't help, and Hendricks retired in 2018.
At his best he was one of the most feared welterweights alive, and his name is permanently tied to the end of the St-Pierre era.
Why fans love Hendricks
