Cesar Almeida is a late-blooming UFC proposition: a 37-year-old Brazilian who spent the better part of two decades as a world-class kickboxer (WKN and WGP champion, with a notable win over UFC middleweight contender Alex Pereira) before committing full-time to MMA in 2023. He arrived at the UFC via Dana White's Contender Series in summer 2023 and made an immediate impression with a knockout win over Dylan Budka in his octagon debut, earning a $50k bonus. That early success, however, masked a critical weakness: Almeida came to the UFC expecting opponents to meet him on clean feet, a luxury elite strikers don't always get. His split-decision loss to Roman Kopylov in June 2024 was the hard lesson that changed his approach.

Faculty kickboxing skills alone won't cut it in the UFC octagon. Almeida absorbed that setback and recalibrated, sharpening his wrestling and clinch work to create openings for his precise, heavy-handed striking. He posted a unanimous decision over Ihor Potieria in October 2024, then returned from a preseason stretch with another first-round knockout of Abdul Razak Alhassan in January 2025, grabbing a second $50k bonus. An ACL injury forced a months-long rehabilitation, but he came back in December 2025 to grind out a unanimous decision win over Cezary Oleksiejczuk, improving to 7-2 overall.

Almeida fights like someone with something to prove at an age when most fighters are slowing down. His five UFC knockouts and four first-round finishes reflect the technical precision and timing that made him a champion kickboxer, but he's now applying those skills inside a much wider ruleset. At 37, he'll never be a top-five contender, but he remains a genuine threat in the middleweight division's mid-tier: a power puncher with legitimate credentials in another sport, a willingness to evolve, and the veteran's poise to execute game plans under UFC lights.

Why fans love Almeida

Almeida's striking is a thrill to watch: precise, heavy-handed, and historically proven against elite kickboxers like Pereira. His quick finishes in the UFC, especially the first-round KOs of Budka and Alhassan, deliver fireworks. Fans also respect his humility and growth mindset: he openly acknowledged that his Kopylov loss taught him to stop expecting opponents to stand and strike, and he's training harder in wrestling and clinch work. He's a no-nonsense veteran with legitimate world-title pedigree in another combat sport.
