Robert Valentin is a 31-year-old Swiss submission specialist fighting out of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. He turned professional in 2016 and earned his way onto The Ultimate Fighter Season 32, where he reached the middleweight final before losing a striking battle to Ryan Loder in his UFC debut in August 2024. What followed was a brutal 0-3 skid: losses to Loder (elbows in round two), Torrez Finney (split decision over three rounds), and Ateba Gautier (first-round TKO at UFC 318). With his job on the line, Valentin returned to the UFC Fight Night card in Winnipeg on April 18, 2026, and delivered what he called a "truly Robert Valentin performance."

Valentin's fighting identity centers on submission grappling and relentless forward pressure. He has finished eight opponents by submission, including six rear-naked chokes, and boasts eight first-round finishes overall. His nickname, "Robzilla," comes from his grappling coach, who called him that because he was injuring training partners. When he gets inside and secures position, he is methodical and dangerous. His kryptonite has been early striking exchanges: three of his six UFC and TUF losses have come via first-round or early second-round KO or TKO by punches or elbows.

In Winnipeg, Valentin submitted Julien Leblanc via rear-naked choke in 2:22 of the first round. Post-fight, he spoke with rare candor about his approach: "Every time I step out there, I'm trying to be violent as possible, because we're legally allowed to do that in a fight, so why not take advantage of it? I'm not there to grind out a decision or be nice to anyone. I want to be violent. I want to see blood." He credited his mother, who had passed away during a fight camp earlier in his career, as a motivating force in his comeback. That submission was voted the 27th best MMA submission of 2026 and proved that beneath the early UFC struggles lay the grappler who had earned his way into the octagon in the first place. With an upcoming bout against Todorovic scheduled for August 1, 2026, Valentin is actively rebuilding his rank and seeking the trajectory that seemed likely before the initial losses.

Why fans love Valentin

Post-fight interviews reveal raw honesty and intensity; he speaks openly about using fighting to channel aggression and about personal struggles (his mother's death). His submission finishes are technical and explosive. The comeback narrative (0-3 to a signature first-round finish) resonates with underdog fans.
