Daniil Donchenko is a 24-year-old Ukrainian welterweight who burst onto the UFC scene in 2025 as the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 33. Before his octagon debut, Donchenko had already established himself as a serious combat athlete: he is a WAKO K-1 World Cup champion in kickboxing (2019), holds an 18-2 professional record in Muay Thai and kickboxing, and won a NAIZA lightweight world championship. When he arrived at the UFC in the fall of 2025, it was clear that his striking pedigree was genuine and his finishing instinct was sharp. His TUF run culminated in a first-round TKO of Rodrigo Sezinando, and he has carried that momentum forward seamlessly into his promotional career.
Donchenko fights as an explosive striker first. In his three UFC bouts, he has landed 139 significant strikes while absorbing only 59, and he boasts a 73% significant-strike defense rate. He averages over 7 significant strikes per minute and generates 1.54 knockdowns per 15-minute window. Ten of his 15 professional wins have come by knockout or TKO, and he has recorded five first-round finishes. Most recently, at UFC Fight Night 280 in Baku in June 2026, he defeated Theodor Berggren with a devastating head kick followed by ground strikes that forced a second-round stoppage. His record is clean (15-2-0), and his UFC record is undefeated at 3-0.
What sets Donchenko apart as a prospect is not just his striking skill but his explicit philosophy about fighting. He has stated repeatedly that his priority is not merely winning but delivering exciting, action-packed performances that generate emotion and fan engagement. He has cited Max Holloway as an inspiration and a measuring stick, and he takes audible pleasure in crowd noise and visible reactions to his strikes. In interviews after his Morono victory and Berggren finish, he spoke about the new Paramount+ era and the increased bonuses for exciting finishes as fuel for his approach. He is currently on a seven-fight winning streak and has signaled ambitions to move up the welterweight ladder quickly, even calling for a main-card slot at UFC Paris to continue his ascent.
For a newcomer to MMA, Donchenko represents a rare convergence: a young, genuinely talented striker with legitimate credentials outside the UFC, a clean fighting style rooted in legitimate martial arts, and an unguarded commitment to making fights entertaining. At 24 and three fights into his UFC career, he is tracking as a potential future title contender, but the immediate draw is simpler: if you want to watch someone get knocked out or submit, and you want that someone to be visibly excited to entertain you while doing it, Donchenko is your fighter.
Why fans love Donchenko
Donchenko's relentless pursuit of exciting, high-action finishes and his transparent desire to emulate Max Holloway's reputation for entertainment value. He speaks openly about wanting fans to feel emotion in his fights, loves crowd energy and reactivity, and has already delivered first-round and second-round finishes. His Ukrainian background and stated commitment to using his platform to help his country during wartime also resonates. He is a legitimate combat-sports tradesman (kickboxer, grappler in progress) without manufactured drama.
