Darrick Minner is a Nebraska-born submission specialist whose professional MMA career spans from 2012 through his UFC release in December 2022. A pure grappler trained at Glory MMA and Fitness, Minner built his reputation on finishing opponents via submission, particularly the guillotine choke, accumulating 22 submission wins and 21 first-round finishes across his pre-UFC and UFC tenure. He earned his UFC contract as an injury replacement in February 2020 and enjoyed early success, most notably submitting TJ Laramie in under a minute with a guillotine choke in September 2020 and winning a decision over Charles Rosa the following February. Those early wins suggested Minner could compete in the featherweight division, but a series of losses to ranked opponents exposed the limitations of his ground-focused approach against elite strikers. He suffered back-to-back losses to Darren Elkins (TKO, round 2) and Ryan Hall (unanimous decision) in mid-to-late 2021, signaling his ceiling at the UFC level.

Minner's final UFC fight, on November 5, 2022, against Shayilan Nuerdanbieke ended in a first-round TKO loss under deeply controversial circumstances. In the days that followed, the UFC launched an investigation into suspicious betting patterns surrounding the bout, and it was revealed that Minner had failed to disclose a knee injury he sustained prior to the fight. Both Minner and his longtime coach James Krause were indefinitely suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and the UFC released Minner from his contract on December 2, 2022. The betting and injury disclosure violations cast a shadow over his record and career trajectory, transforming a journeyman grappler with real submission skills into a cautionary tale about fight-fixing concerns in combat sports. While Minner compiled an impressive submission resume and demonstrated clear technical expertise on the mat, his UFC stint was defined more by losses to better strikers and the integrity questions surrounding his exit than by any lasting legacy of dominance.

Why some fans hate Minner

Betting-fixing scandal and failure to disclose knee injury prior to his final UFC bout (November 2022) that raised questions about fight integrity. Unusual betting patterns and odds movements preceded his loss to Shayilan Nuerdanbieke, leading to an FBI investigation, his UFC release, and indefinite suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission alongside his coach James Krause.
