Dwight Grant is a Brooklyn-born mixed martial artist who transitioned from professional kickboxing, where he held a World Kickboxing Association middleweight title, into MMA competition. After a strong run on the regional circuit in the northeastern United States, compiling an 8-1 record, Grant earned his shot at the big time by winning a contest on Dana White's Contender Series in June 2018 via knockout. That victory landed him a UFC contract, and he made his promotional debut on short notice that same year as a welterweight.
Grant fought in the UFC welterweight division from 2018 to 2022, establishing himself as a heavy-handed striker capable of finishing opponents early. His best moment came in February 2019 when he knocked out Carlo Pedersoli Jr. in the first round, a performance that earned him a Performance of the Night bonus and suggested he could compete at the elite level. He followed that up with split-decision wins over Alan Jouban and Stefan Sekulic, proving he could navigate three-round fights against ranked opposition.
However, Grant's career at the UFC level was marked by inconsistency. Notable losses to Daniel Rodriguez (a stunning first-round KO reversal), Francisco Trinaldo, and Sergey Khandozhko demonstrated that his defensive footwork and chin durability were liabilities against top-tier welterweights. Although his war with Khandozhko earned him a Fight of the Night award, it also highlighted the toll of his aggressive, high-risk fighting style. In July 2022, after four years in the promotion, Grant was released from the UFC roster. His run illustrated the gap between regional success and sustained performance at the highest level of mixed martial arts.
