Eddie 'The Underground King' Alvarez built his legend the hard way, grinding through the regional scene and Bellator to become a champion in multiple promotions before reaching the UFC. In 2016 he knocked out Rafael dos Anjos to win the UFC lightweight title, the crown atop a career defined by toughness and refusal to take the easy route.
His fights are firefights. Alvarez owns a granite chin and a pressure-forward style that turns nearly every bout into a war - his 2017 brawl with Justin Gaethje is one of the most replayed fights of the decade. He lost the UFC belt to Conor McGregor in a marquee Madison Square Garden main event, then closed his career in ONE Championship.
Now retired, Alvarez is remembered as a throwback - a fighter who chose to bleed rather than coast. For newcomers, he's the guy whose name you bring up when you want to argue about the most exciting lightweights of all time.
Why fans love Alvarez
He fights like every round is the last, and his honesty and toughness made him a fan's fighter across three major promotions.
