Scott Holtzman, known as "Hot Sauce" for his literal love of the condiment, is a former lightweight fighter who transformed a dead-end office job into a seven-year UFC career by sheer willpower and knockout power. Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Holtzman was a multi-sport athlete who briefly played professional hockey before stepping into the cage in 2009 with no intention of becoming a pro. That changed quickly. He compiled a flawless 4-0 amateur record and turned professional in 2012, dominating the Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) where he won the lightweight title in 2013 by knocking out John Mahlow in the second round.

Holtzman signed with the UFC in August 2014 and made his promotional debut with a commanding submission victory over Anthony Christodoulou. He began strongly with four consecutive wins, including a spectacular knockout of Alan Patrick via elbows at UFC 229 in October 2018. His signature performance came against veteran Jim Miller in February 2020, a back-and-forth war that lasted the full three rounds and earned him his first and only Fight of the Night bonus. Holtzman proved he belonged in the octagon, fighting with heavy hands, relentless forward pressure, and a willingness to trade strikes that made his bouts entertaining.

However, as he aged into his mid-to-late thirties, Holtzman's record deteriorated against faster, more technical opposition. A devastating knockout loss to up-and-coming Beneil Dariush in August 2020 (a spinning backfist in round one) exposed his vulnerability to technical strikers. Subsequent losses to Mateusz Gamrot and Clay Guida, combined with earlier setbacks to prospect-level fighters like Nik Lentz and Josh Emmett, made clear that Holtzman's ceiling in elite MMA had been reached. He retired after a controversial split-decision loss to Clay Guida in December 2022 at age 39, finishing his career with a 14-6 professional record. Holtzman leaves behind a legacy as a respected journeyman who fought the right way: aggressive, honest, and always game.

Why fans love Holtzman

Holtzman is game as they come, a self-aware veteran who fights with clear intent to finish. He earned a Fight of the Night bonus for an all-action brawl with Jim Miller; fans respect his willingness to stand and exchange and his humble, hardworking persona. His story of escaping a cubicle to become a professional fighter resonates; he trains methodically and carries no ego.
