Ariane Carnelossi is a 33-year-old Brazilian strawweight who built her early professional career on a strong Muay Thai foundation and a willingness to blend striking with submission grappling. After a brief amateur soccer career and work as a waitress, she discovered martial arts when a Muay Thai gym opened across the street from her home in Álvares Machado, Brazil, and never looked back. She holds black belts in jiu-jitsu and kickboxing, plus a black Prajied rank in Muay Thai, credentials reflected in her diverse finishing arsenal. From her 2014 pro debut through 2018, Carnelossi rattled off an impressive 12-bout winning streak, capturing the Batalha MMA Strawweight Championship and establishing herself as a prospect before entering the UFC in 2019.

Her octagon career has been choppy. After losing her UFC debut to Angela Hill via third-round TKO due to a cut, Carnelossi rebounded with wins over Na Liang (UFC 261 in April 2021, fought through a slipped disc) and Istela Nunes (rear-naked choke submission in October 2021). Yet since 2022 she has managed only a 3-4 record, with recent losses via submission to Talita Alencar (November 2025) and a devastating first-round knockout by Ketlen Souza (June 2026) signaling erosion. Her striking output remains respectable at 2.68 significant strikes landed per minute, but defensive vulnerabilities (44% striking defense, 23% takedown defense) have left her exposed to opponents who can close the distance or counter her clinch work.

Carnelossi's appeal rests on her finishing power (60% of wins by knockout or TKO) and the intrigue of a multi-faceted striker-grappler, backed by a humble narrative of resilience through injury and a modest public demeanor that earned her the nickname 'Sorriso' (Smile). However, a recent slide and a pair of sharp losses have cast doubt on her ability to compete at the elite strawweight level. At 33 and coming off a quick knockout, she faces pressure to rekindle form or risk becoming a gatekeeper in a division that has passed her by.

Why fans love Carnelossi

Her finishing power (nine KOs, two subs) and multi-faceted skillset; her resilience fighting through a slipped disc at UFC 261 garnered respect. Modest, unassuming media presence aligned with her 'Smile' nickname suggests sportsmanship over ego.
