Desmond Green is an American lightweight with a 23-8 MMA record who carved out a mid-tier UFC career spanning 2017 to 2020. Born in Rochester, New York, Green had an accomplished wrestling background, winning a state championship at Rush-Henrietta High School and competing as a three-time NCAA Division 1 qualifier at the University at Buffalo. After starting his professional career in 2012 with regional promotions in the Northeast, Green won the New England Fights lightweight title before joining Bellator MMA in 2013. He reached the featherweight tournament final at Bellator 119 before being released in 2014. He then found success with Titan Fighting Championship, winning and defending the featherweight championship.
Green signed with the UFC in February 2017 and made his promotional debut at UFC 210 with a split-decision victory. Over his three-year tenure in the octagon, he posted a 5-4 record at lightweight, facing a roster of seasoned competitors including Rustam Khabilov, Mairbek Taisumov, and Michel Prazeres. His fighting style centers on high-volume striking from range and sustained pressure, with 83 percent of his offensive output delivered from a standing position. He compiled 15 decision victories and six knockouts across his career, grinding out wins through octagon control and pace rather than seeking spectacular finishes.
Green's most notable recent performance came in March 2019 when he stopped veteran Ross Pearson with a first-round TKO at UFC on ESPN 2, followed by a unanimous decision over newcomer Charles Jourdain in May 2019. He was released by the UFC in January 2020 after the Jourdain bout. Since leaving the promotion, Green has competed in bare-knuckle boxing with BYB Extreme Fighting Series, where he has become the current BYB Middleweight Champion and Police Gazette Diamond Belt holder, defeating three-time bare-knuckle champion Scott McHugh in November 2022.
