Ismail Naurdiev is an Austrian-Moroccan middleweight who embodies the long road to the UFC. Born in Grozny, Chechnya during wartime, he and his family fled to Austria when he was eight. Without formal coaching or sparring partners early on, Naurdiev grinded through European regional circuits while working as a truck mechanic, training twice daily before and after grueling shifts. By the time he made his UFC debut in February 2019, he had compiled a 17-2 record and earned multiple regional championships.
His initial UFC run lasted just four fights. Going 2-2 at welterweight against fighters like Sean Brady and Chance Rencountre, Naurdiev was released in 2020 but did not fade. He spent the next three years competing in Brave Combat Federation and Elite MMA, eventually moving up to middleweight where he found more success. When the UFC re-signed him in 2024, Naurdiev had added size, experience, and even more refined striking.
As a fighter, Naurdiev is a high-volume, explosive striker with genuine knockout power. His arsenal includes spinning kicks, flying knees, and overhand rights capable of ending fights instantly. He holds 13 UFC knockouts and 16 first-round finishes in his pro record. Though he carries submission credentials (armbar, triangle, guillotine), his bread and butter is aggressive striking - the kind that gets crowd roars. In November 2025 at UFC Qatar, he scored his first UFC knockout, a one-punch overhand right that left Ryan Loder unconscious in just 1:26 of the first round.
In his second stint with the promotion, Naurdiev sits 2-1 at middleweight, a prospect with real finishing ability and the kind of comeback narrative that appeals to fight fans who respect the grind. He remains active and dangerous, capable of spectacular finishes.
Why fans love Naurdiev
His finishing power and willingness to throw spinning kicks and flying knees make him exciting to watch. Comeback story from truck mechanic grind to UFC re-signing resonates. Nickname 'Berzdog' and 'The Austrian Wonderboy' reflect his stylish, aggressive approach.
