John 'The Magician' Dodson made his name as one of the fastest, most explosive fighters in the lighter weight classes. After winning The Ultimate Fighter at bantamweight, he dropped to flyweight and quickly fought his way into title contention, earning two shots at the division's dominant champion Demetrious Johnson. He lost both on the scorecards, but rocked Johnson on multiple occasions and proved he carried serious power for a man his size.
Dodson's calling card was speed paired with one-punch knockout ability, a rare combination at 125 and 135 pounds. He moved back up to bantamweight in the second half of his career and remained a tough out, beating contenders like Pedro Munhoz and Eddie Wineland while trading wins and losses with the division's best, including a competitive decision loss to future champion Petr Yan.
Though his peak years are behind him, Dodson is remembered as an action fighter who never coasted. His blend of athleticism, charisma and finishing power made him a reliable highlight machine and a fan favorite throughout a long run near the top of two divisions.
