John Makdessi has been a fixture of the UFC lightweight division since 2010, one of those fighters who outlasts entire generations of prospects. A polished kickboxer, he built his reputation on crisp range striking, fast combinations and the occasional highlight spinning back-fist.
Makdessi never cracked the title picture, but that was never really the point. He settled in as a respected gatekeeper, picking off names like Ross Pearson and, late in his career, schooling young prospects such as Ignacio Bahamondes on the feet.
For striking purists, he's a treat: footwork, timing and clean technique over brawling. The younger, more athletic generation eventually began to catch him, but Makdessi's longevity and craft earned him a lasting place as one of the division's most durable technicians.
Why fans love Makdessi
Longevity, clean technique and the occasional highlight spinning strike. A reliable, skilled craftsman.
