Justin Ledet is a Houston-based light heavyweight who came to MMA after a career transition from college basketball. Born in 1988, he began training in mixed martial arts around 2008 to stay in shape following his departure from Texas A&M-Kingsville. Before entering the UFC, Ledet compiled a 6-0-1 regional record in Texas, fighting almost exclusively in his home state, and also posted a 5-0 record as a professional boxer. His disciplined boxing background defines his fighting style: he operates as a pure striker with strong footwork and distance management, landing 95% of his significant strikes from range. However, his reliance on boxing leaves him vulnerable to pressure and clinch work at the highest levels of the UFC light heavyweight division.
Ledet made his UFC debut in August 2016 with a decision win over Chase Sherman and quickly followed up with a submission victory over Mark Godbeer, earning recognition as UFC's #7 Newcomer of the Year. His early promise dimmed as he faced increasingly elite competition. He lost a lopsided unanimous decision to Aleksandar Rakic in July 2018, then suffered back-to-back first-round stoppages: a brutal TKO loss to Johnny Walker in February 2019 capped by a spinning back fist, and a leg-kick TKO defeat to Dustin Jacoby in October 2020. A unanimous decision loss to Aleksa Camur in January 2020 further demonstrated his struggle at the UFC level.
With a final UFC record of 3-6, Ledet was released by the promotion in November 2020. His overall professional MMA record stands at 9-4-0, built primarily on earlier success in regional competition. While his boxing acumen provided a foundation for early wins, the UFC's elite light heavyweight roster proved too powerful for his pure striker approach, and he was unable to evolve sufficiently to compete at that level.
