Mike Grundy is an English mixed martial artist and freestyle wrestler whose career arc traces from elite British wrestling credentials to a stint in the UFC featherweight division. A 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist in the 74 kg division, Grundy represented Great Britain and England at multiple international wrestling tournaments before transitioning to mixed martial arts in 2011. He built a strong regional record across promotions including Shooto, BAMMA, and Absolute Championship Berkut, compiling 11 wins and just one loss before his UFC debut in March 2019.

Groundy's fighting style is anchored in his wrestling and grappling foundation. He won eight of his twelve professional bouts via submission, employing guillotines, arm triangles, Brabo chokes, and Americanas with the precision of a catch-wrestling-influenced technician trained at Team Kaobon alongside British MMA prospects. His striking game is methodical rather than explosive, landing around 2.09 significant strikes per minute and concentrating his offense in standing and ground positions. This submission-first approach made him dangerous on the regional circuit but proved a liability against the faster, more complete featherweights of the UFC.

During his three years in the octagon (2019-2022), Grundy faced a gauntlet of ranked opposition. After a successful debut finish over Nad Narimani in March 2019, he lost consecutive decisions to Movsar Evloev and Lando Vannata before being finished via first-round anaconda choke by Makwan Amirkhani in March 2022. The loss to Amirkhani marked his final UFC appearance; he was released two months later. Grundy announced his retirement from MMA in April 2024 but returned to competition in January 2025 by signing with the Global Fight League, continuing his career outside the UFC.

Why fans love Grundy

Grundy's submission acumen, Commonwealth wrestling credentials, and no-nonsense grappling approach earned respect from submission and wrestling enthusiasts. His willingness to stick to a grappling gameplan and his black belt in luta livre demonstrated commitment to technical mastery over flashiness.
