Miranda Maverick is a 28-year-old American flyweight who grew up working on her family's Missouri farm before being inspired by Ronda Rousey to pursue MMA at 16. She compiled an impressive 7-1 amateur record and won Invicta FC's Phoenix Series tournament, earning her a UFC contract in 2020. After a mixed start in the Octagon that included two setbacks to Maycee Barber and Erin Blanchfield, Maverick found her rhythm and put together four consecutive wins over Andrea Lee, Priscila Cachoeira, Dione Barbosa, and Jamey-Lyn Horth. As of early 2025, she is ranked #9 in the UFC women's flyweight division.
Maverick's fighting style is built on grappling and submission prowess. She has eight submission wins in the UFC, primarily via armbar, rear-naked choke, and neck crank. Her approach is methodical: she hunts takedowns, controls her opponents through wrestling and clinch work, and wins through attrition and decision. While she lands respectable striking volume at distance, her strength lies in closing the distance and imposing her will. She lands significant strikes at a clip of 3.2 per minute and has solid takedown defense, though she attempts takedowns at a relatively low rate.
What sets Maverick apart is her life outside the cage. While pursuing a doctorate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Old Dominion University, she has launched two small businesses: Prowler Pickles and High Stakes Honey. She also draws detailed pencil sketches and trains at Pound for Pound Muay Thai and Easton Training Center in Denver. This blend of athleticism, intellect, and creative pursuits has earned her a growing following of fans who see in her a fighter with depth and ambition beyond combat sports.
In June 2025, Maverick stepped into the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 69 against former two-time strawweight champion Rose Namajunas in Atlanta. The two are longtime training partners from the Denver area who have sparred extensively, making the fight a unique mental challenge. Despite her confidence and momentum, Maverick fell short, losing a unanimous decision. At 17-6 overall, she remains a prospect on the rise with a genuine path into title contention, pending her ability to scale past former champions and established contenders.
