Seung Woo Choi is a 32-year-old South Korean featherweight who earned his way to the UFC on the back of regional dominance in Asia. Training since age eight, he became a two-time Top Fighting Championship featherweight champion and a bronze medalist at the 2010 IFMA World Muaythai Championships before launching his pro MMA career in 2015. His strong early record (7–1 in non-UFC competition) earned him a UFC contract in 2019, and he debuted at UFC Fight Night in April 2019 against Movsar Evloev, losing a unanimous decision. That loss set the tone for an up-and-down UFC run marked by explosive highs and harsh lows.
Choi's signature style is that of a pressure striker who overwhelms opponents with volume and heavy hands. Standing accounts for 70% of his significant strikes; he lands an average of 3.56 strikes per minute and has recorded six knockout wins and four first-round finishes in the UFC. In June 2021, he earned a Performance of the Night bonus for a devastating first-round TKO of Julian Erosa, a moment that announced him as a legitimate threat in the featherweight division. Yet his defensive discipline has been a persistent problem: he absorbs significant strikes at a rate of 3.16 per minute and shows minimal wrestling credentials (only 2 takedowns landed in 11 attempts across his UFC career).
That defensive vulnerability proved catastrophic against elite competition. After a split-decision loss to Josh Culibao in June 2022 and a first-round knockout by Michael Trizano (who weighed 1.6 pounds over the limit) in November 2022, Choi showed signs of recovery with a unanimous decision over Jarno Errens in August 2023. But two devastating first-round losses followed: a 1:36 TKO to Steve Garcia in July 2024 and a 3:09 TKO to Kevin Vallejos in March 2025. In April 2025, he was removed from the UFC roster. Choi's story is one of raw power and warrior spirit constrained by the technical and defensive demands of elite competition—a regional star whose one-punch potential never quite translated into sustained success at the highest level.
