T.J. Brown is an American mixed martial artist born May 22, 1990, who has spent the last several years competing in the featherweight and lightweight divisions. After compiling a 13-6 record on the regional MMA circuit, Brown earned his shot in the UFC via Dana White's Contender Series in 2019, defeating Dylan Lockard via arm-triangle submission in the third round. He made his UFC debut in February 2020 against Jordan Griffin but suffered a second-round guillotine submission loss, setting a tone of inconsistency that would define his time in the promotion.

Brown's UFC tenure from 2020 to 2024 was marked by alternating wins and losses, with his grappling prowess occasionally delivering memorable submissions but his overall record struggling against ranked competition. His best moment came at UFC 282 in December 2022, when he submitted Erik Silva via arm-triangle choke in round three and earned a Performance of the Night bonus. A year later, his Fight of the Night against Bill Algeo ended in another submission loss (rear-naked choke, R2), a result that epitomized Brown's journey: tough competitor, entertaining fighter, but ultimately outmatched at the highest level. He also suffered a controversial split-decision loss to Kai Kamaka III in 2021, a bout in which all 15 media members scored the fight for Kamaka, and missed weight against Danny Chavez early in his UFC run.

Brown was removed from the UFC roster in October 2024 and has since continued fighting in post-UFC promotions including RDC, Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA, and United Fight League, winning some bouts via submission while absorbing losses to tougher opponents. He remains an active fighter but has not recaptured the momentum or opportunities he had during his peak UFC years. Brown is a single father and carries his commitment to fighting across multiple promotions despite the lack of a clear path back to the major leagues.

Why some fans hate Brown

Controversial split decision win over Kai Kamaka III (2021) in which all 15 media members scored the bout for his opponent, raising questions about judging credibility. Weight miss against Danny Chavez at UFC 252 (0.5 pounds over limit), resulting in a 20 percent purse deduction.
